E-Learning Scenario 2 Activity A

In this Scenario, Mrs Xing faced a few problems. First, a parent's complain call about a student surfing pornographic content, after which claiming it to be doing work that Mrs Xing had instructed.

For this problem, I felt that it was something Mrs Xing might have been able to prevent from the start. She could perhaps inform the parents of what was her homework for the e-learning week, so as they have a clearer picture of what areas of websites the students would be surfing for.

Next problem Mrs Xing faced was the shocking news that one-third of her students unable to open the PowerPoint file uploaded. In this case, she should have told the students beforehand to inform her if unable to open the file so as she can resend them or even print the slides out for them.

Lastly was the cutting and pasting of answers from websites. I personally feel that this involves plagiarism, and Mrs Xing should educate the students about plagiarism and its consequences. Otherwise, students should have cited their resources.

On the overall, I feel that there could have been more preparation work done by Mrs Xing though her planning for the e-learning was good. She can also ask for feedback from students on their views about the discussion forum to know if it really helped them.

  1. I strongly agree with informing the parents beforehand in order to prevent misunderstanding and also to let parents be more aware of what their child are working at so that they can supervise them. Maybe can issue a form to the parents too. She can also provide afew links to the students to help them in their research.

  2. For the powerpoint not being able to open, I feel that Mrs Xing could have alternatively tried assessing the file from different computers with different versions of the software first before giving it out to her students.

  3. I agree with almost all the points stated by the three of you. These are the factors which I believed able to prevent or reduce the number of problems faced. Mrs Xing had overlooked necessary factors such as specific instructions. This relates to the back- up plan which she did not do, or maybe did not occured in her mind. Back- up plans are really crucial so as to prevent the students from giving excuses and also to make the whole learning process a asuccessful one.

  4. Reshmi, just to share my thoughts. It might not always be possible for Mrs Xing to have access to several computers and several different versions of the software.
